About

Team Warrior Women is made up of Pilot, Heather W. and Co-Pilot, Sandi T.  We will be flying Heather’s Piper Warrior in the Air Race Classic this June.  The Air Race Classic is an annual cross-country race for women only.  www.airraceclassic.org.

Heather and I met at KMMK (Meriden, CT,) about 7 years ago while I was taking my primary flight instruction and Heather was returning to flying after nearly 17 years. As is often the case at small airports , there weren’t many women pilots – so the few of us who were there became fast friends and frequent flying buddies. (Here’s where I’ll make my “shout out” to Ann and April….two of our Meriden pilot-friends who have logged many hours with us as pilots and co-pilots!) We were all Warrior Women at KMMK… that is until I bought my Cessna 172….but that’s a story for another day. (Heather’s husband, Leon, has been gracious enough to allow us to use their plane despite the fact that he’s in the midst of his private pilot training – so, a special THANK YOU to Leon;o)

This year the Air Race Classic takes place primarily in the eastern half of the country, does not venture to Canada as it has in other years and ends at my home airport, KFDK (Frederick, MD.) The race route and terminus gave us the incentive we needed to ask “why not?” ….And since we had no good answer to that questions…. we’re racing!

I’m not sure where this blog will take us as we document the preparation and race itself, but we’re glad to have you along for the ride if you’re game to join us. Welcome to Team Warrior Women! Classic #29.

The latest post has our 4 day route – but timing will be dependent on the weather. If the weather is perfect – we’ll try to make it in 3 days, if not…we’ll have to lay out at times and could use all 4 days. We’ll upate the blog each night as the race rules preclude us from flying in Instrument conditions (IFR) and at night.
